Dr. Zwick’s approach to individual and couples therapy with adults can be characterized as eclectic, as primarily a combination of psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies. Historical information such as family of origin is always considered in the conceptualization of the presenting problem(s). Dr. Zwick employs diverse therapeutic strategies that generally focus on the present day interactions and relationships of the patient(s) while considering their correlation to the past. Therapy is viewed as a collaborative process whereby the therapist and patient together try to understand the patient’s day to day interactions on the basis of their sensitivities, vulnerabilities and cognitive distortions. Change is brought about through not only insight but by altering thinking and behaviors.
